Privacy at Niera
Last updated 26 September 2026
This page covers this site, niera.in, and the app, Niera Study at study.niera.in. It says what we keep, why, who else handles it, and how to take it back. The short version: what you upload is used only for you, and you can export or delete all of it from the app.
On this site
The waitlist form asks only for your email address. With it we keep the time you joined, your browser's user-agent string and a one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself. An earlier form, for pre-release seats, also asked for a name, a WhatsApp number, the exam year and a plan, and we keep those for the people who gave them.
To confirm the address we email you a 6-digit code. The code is stored only as a hash and stops working after 15 minutes. The emails are sent through Resend, an email delivery service. So the form cannot be used to flood someone else's inbox, each code sent is also logged for about two days, with one-way keyed hashes of the address and of the IP, never either in the clear.
This site sets no cookies. It counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and does not follow you to other sites. The site is hosted by Hostinger.
To leave the waitlist, write to lalit@niera.in and we delete your row. Booking a call with us happens on Cal.com, under Cal.com's own privacy policy.
In Niera Study
Your account
You sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email, or with Google, in which case Google tells us your email address and an account id. We keep your email, when you signed in, and a rough label for the device, such as "Chrome on Android". Sign-in codes stop working after 5 minutes.
What you tell Niera about yourself
Your class, the exam you are aiming for and its date, the chapters you have covered and the ones you find hard, your hours a week, how deep you like answers, a voice style, and a first name if you give one.
What you make
The books, notes and photos you upload, with the page images and text read from them; your chats and the figures drawn in them; your practice answers and papers; your record, which says what you know and what to revise; and the notes, questions and answers you save.
Voice calls
A call is streamed to our speech provider to turn speech into text and the answers back into speech. We do not record the audio and we do not keep a transcript. We keep only how many seconds you used each day.
How much you use it
While the app is open in front of you, it counts the minutes each day, how many separate times you came back, and which part of the app the minutes went to, such as practice or the library. A minute counts when the tab is showing and its window is in front, for up to half an hour after you last touched, typed or scrolled, or while a paper or a voice call is on, and the minutes with a touch, key or scroll in the five before are also counted on their own. We keep each day's totals and nothing finer: no record of what you did in those minutes, and no timeline of your day.
If the link that brought you to the app carried campaign tags, such as utm_source=instagram, the app keeps them in your browser until you sign in, and then with your new account, to count where students come from.
These numbers are for us, to see how the app is used. Nothing you are shown, taught or asked in the app is chosen from them.
Who can see it
You. What you upload and what you ask is never shown to another student and never used to answer anyone else's questions. The database keeps each student's rows apart, and tests check it.
Three exceptions, all narrow. If you flag an answer as wrong, the founder reads that answer and what it was answering, to fix the problem. The founder sees the minutes and visits counted above for each student, beside that student's email address or phone number. And we count things across all students, such as how often a question is answered correctly, without reading what anyone wrote.
Who else handles it
These services process your data only to run Niera for you:
- Amazon Web Services, in Mumbai: the servers, the database and your files, some of the AI models, and the reading of scanned pages.
- Google Cloud: the Gemini models that write many of the answers. These can process your question outside India.
- Sarvam AI: voice calls. It receives the audio, and to answer well, your first name, the chapter, a summary of your record and the last few messages of the chat, under an id for that call rather than your account.
- Google: sign-in with Google if you use it, and the email that carries your sign-in code.
- A web search provider: only when web answers are switched on, and only for exam dates and notices. It receives a search query written from your question.
- Cloudflare: counts visits to the app's pages and how fast they load, without a cookie. It receives each page's address, which names a chat by its id at most, and your browser's timings.
We do not sell your data or show you ads.
Keeping and deleting
Your data stays until you delete it. In the app, Account has Export everything held and Delete my account. Deleting your account removes your uploads, chats, record, profile and the minutes counted, and then the account itself. You can also delete a single upload, chat or note at any time.
A sign-in session ends after 30 days without use, and after a year in any case. A copy of the server is taken before each update, so deleted data can stay in those copies for a while.
Cookies and storage in the app
One cookie keeps you signed in, and a second one exists only during sign-in with Google. The app also remembers a few settings in your browser, such as your email for the sign-in box and the size of its panels. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
If you are under 18
Most people preparing for JEE and NEET are. Read this page with a parent or guardian, and either of you can write to us about your account.
